Dear Friends,

A wildfire that began late Monday continues to spread through parts of Ventura County and threatens to expand towards the Santa Barbara County line.  The Thomas fire has burned hundreds of homes and structures, forcing immediate evacuations, intermittent road closures, and affecting the air and water quality in Ventura County and in the Santa Barbara area.  Many of the individuals and families served by Tri-Counties Regional Center (TCRC), service providers and staff have been directly impacted. Our thoughts and prayers are with each of you.

Since the fire started, dozens of TCRC management personnel and staff have joined me around the clock to coordinate our fire related activities.  TCRC, in close collaboration with our service provider community, are doing all we can to attend to the safety of individuals served by TCRC who have been impacted by the fire.  TCRC’s efforts have in part included regular outreach to residential and day program facilities, individuals living independently and to families who have a loved one living at home served by TCRC who have been under either voluntary or mandatory evacuation orders. We have been working closely with our transportation providers to ensure all in need have been safely evacuated. We are also in regular communication with all evacuation shelters to advocate for and assist with the needs of any evacuees served by TCRC.  We will continue our efforts as long as needed.

I want to take this opportunity to reiterate the continued seriousness of this situation.  Safety should be everyone’s top priority.  Please follow all evacuation orders.  If you do not feel safe, then don’t wait to evacuate.

If you have any questions or concerns, call your nearest TCRC office.  During the after hours, your calls will be forwarded to on-call personnel who will do their best to assist you.

Our gratitude goes out to our fire fighters and first responders for all their incredible efforts. We are very appreciative of the amazing commitment and dedication of our service provider community in working closely with TCRC to keep individuals we serve safe during this very challenging and difficult time.

Sincerely,

Omar Noorzad, Ph.D.
