The CalFresh program helps people who have very low or no income to buy nutritious groceries. CalFresh benefits are provided through the use of an electronic benefit transfer (EBT) card that is used like a bank debit card to buy food at most grocery stores. Individuals who receive SSI are now eligible for CalFresh benefits. Individuals with disabilities may deduct medical expenses which may increase your food benefits.
People with disabilities are not subject to the gross income test (200% FPL), they are only required to meet the net income test (100% FPL). The net income of a household it’s income after all allowable deductions under the CalFresh rules have been subtracted.
