The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program pays benefits to adults and children with disabilities who have limited income and resources. The level of income and amount of resources affect eligibility. The income of spouses and parents may be considered, including real estate, bank accounts, cash, stocks and bonds. You may qualify for SSI if your resources are worth no more than $2,000, or $3000 for a couple.
Apply online at www.ssa.gov (select the “SSI” tab) or call 1-800-772-1213 to make an appointment with a Social Security representative. Parents or guardians apply for children under age 18.
